Chronic Mncher

Goldfish is a South African duo comprised of Dom Peters and David Poole. Together, they make funky 8-bit with a dabble of jazz, a shake of samba and a heavy peppering of electronic. The fishiness doesn’t end there; Dom and David crank out music video’s chock-full of retro visuals and trippy characters.

Goldfish – We Come Together (Goldfishs Fishy Beat Extended Mix)
Goldfish – Show You How (Original Mix)
Goldfish – Hold Tight (Original Mix)
Goldfish – Big Band Wolf (Original Mix)
Goldfish – Lulu (Original Mix)

Smooth piano, sexy sax and a satisfying Monday

I posted about this French comic book hero just over a year ago and wow, what a progression he’s made. Janski Beeeats’ new stuff compared to his old stuff is like comparing a rusty rice rocket to a red gleaming Ferrari; the bite is crispier, the notes are tidier and the overall ride is just plain improved.

Keep in mind these tracks were mastered in a basement, by a teenager, wearing a dinosaur mask.

I posted about these kids back when the days were still warm and afternoon naps were a daily routine. I’ve been peevishly waiting for some new material to sanctify my summer nostalgia.  Lemaitre changed up their style a bit; somehow they fused french funk, filth, glitch, indie and acid into a single 5-star banger.

Yasumo might sound like Japanese anime, but they’re actually an Australian based funk band. Yanni Nair and Simon Salerno hold down the fort with ostentatious guitar upstrokes, bouncing baselines and silver-tongued swag.

I’m not sure what it is, but funk and house compliment each other better than Netflix and hot cocoa on a placidly mellow November afternoon.

New York City’s own Escort released “Cocaine Blues” last September, but somehow this week was my first time hearing it. Disco vibes with catchy vocals easily bump this groove up to flavor of the month. This track is pure gold; If you haven’t before, you’ll want to ride the white horse.

“A knife a fork, a bottle and a cork, that’s the way we spell New York”
