Frontman of Mason Proper, Jonathan Visger has been producing music on his own in a side project called Absofacto, releasing singles and EPs since late 2008. Recently, he released his first 7″ vinyl with 10k Cities. His sound as a whole is difficult to sum up—it’s different with every bite. It’s experimental, it’s edgy, it’s rebellious and it’s worth your time. Check it out.

On the int3rwebz, it seams that… writers expose new music, in general, to applause. Occasionally, new music doesn’t merit praise. In fact, sometimes an anticipated piece of work deserves criticism.

In this case, Betatraxx’s new EP, “X”, is just shwatever.

In my opinion, only the first song out of six on Betatraxx’s new EP is half decent. The other 5 are squabbly excuses of traveling sound waves.

It’s been awhile since C+A+D has made an expansion worth an introduction. When I started this blog, I didn’t want to discriminate by genre. If it’s good, I want it on here, and I want you to hear it. I’ve been waiting for someone to come around that could fill our hip-hop void. Needless to say, the search is over and another missing piece to the puzzle that is C+A+D has been placed. Without further ado, your hip-hop fiend ends here.

As an avid follower of the site, I’m excited to be on board and spread the good tunes to all who are willing to listen. I’m a prime example of how the process of sharing taste in different genres can create passion where there was none, so I’m just hoping to pass on that spirit. As much as my taste has evolved, I’ll always have a special place for hip hop, old and new. That being said, I’ll do my best in keeping my ear to the ground to deliver the freshest tracks to your headphones and occasionally drop off an old gem that always gets my head noddin’. In the meantime, here’s a few songs i haven’t been able to stop listening to from some of the up and coming names in this scene.

Couple big releases last week — G.O.O.D. Music‘s Big Sean dropped “My Last,” the first single (featuring Chris Brown) off of his upcoming debut album, “Finally Famous: the Album.” Check it out below.

Also, one of the leaders of the independent hip-hop scene, MURS, delivered another album in the form of a collaboration with producer Terrace Martin; the two worked on a couple tracks together on “MURS for President.” The new album, “Melrose” reflects the duo’s fun, laid-back sides and can be purchased at major retailers. MURS was one of the dudes that originally got me into the scene so I always look forward to anything he puts out.

Happy Sunday everyone, back with another list for you guys. I gotta dedicate this to our friend and creative mind behind 12fv. He’s put together a show with some other local talent that’s going to be at the Lab in Costa Mesa. They’ve been working hard to bring out their best works that you can admire and purchase. 12fv will be helping us get our new look, so make the world go round and shoot ’em some support.

That being said, I went to the mediocre at best Major Rager show in LA last night and was pretty disappointed. The venue was supposed to be at an airfield, but we got rained into some banquet hall type of deal that kinda ruined it. We reached sauna temperatures, the speakers couldn’t handle the volume and Diplo‘s equipment overheated, so he proceeded to beatbox. I was entertained, but it’s not what I wanted out of the show. I shoulda just saved myself for the My Life Every Day show with Calvin Harris, Etienne de Crecy, Burns and friends. Next time I’m back here I’ll be able to legally drink and drive! (under a .08, though.) I’ll be celebrating in San Diego with Nero. GO!

Oh well, the Coachella countdown continues…

Ranucci & Pelusi are two unsigned artists working under the alias Promise Land. I spent a fair portion of my morning trying to dig up some scoop; sadly, I couldn’t find a name, an influence… shit, all i know is that they’re Italian. I concluded the leaning tower of pisa is less mysterious. Regardless of their anonymity, Ranucci & Pelusi know how to get down and dirty. Once the Internet gets a hold of their 305 mix, Promise Land will blow up faster than marshmallows in a microwave.

It’s time for some feel-good electro sweetness in the form of another remix extraordinaire that goes by This Guy I Know (TGIK). The first time he caught my attention was from his blast from the past remix of The Killers‘ “Smile Like You Mean It.” I don’t know about you guys, but I spent countless hours on their album Hot Fuss when I was a kid…to the point that it makes me sick to hear a song off of it now. TGIK brought this song back to life in a way I thought to be impossible. Brandon Flowers’ voice on top of powerfully harmonic synths and a simple drum beat that you can’t help but bob your head to. It even maintains the original emotions like it’s the first time you heard it. He has this power with almost every song he touches, and he even mashes up some really sick stuff. I’m really looking forward to hearing more from this guy. He’s got all of his remixes and mashups and sets for listening and downloading pleasure on his soundcloud, but I went ahead and put up some of my favorites.
