Some more Texas-based indie-pop-throwback-goodness for you: Voxtrot were around in the early 2k’s. They broke up a few years ago but their music is still pretty essential in my iTunes. They remind me of Belle and Sebastian covering The Smiths. Or something. I love them. You should too. Just saying.

Aussie youngsters San Cisco are churning out auditory candy like no one’s business. Their sunny indie-pop jams are glowingly optimistic, with a carefree vibe reminiscent of Kakkmaddafakka. They’ve got a very promising future ahead of them, I’d highly recommend keeping an eye out for them.

It could be completely inappropriate to toss Spoon in the “throwback” category because they were a huge game changer on the indie front and as far as I’m concerned, they are timeless. They are an absolute essential; I still find a way to sneak a Spoon song onto most CDs I make even now. Truth be told, I’ll probably raise my kids on their music. Seven really strong albums, I find it pretty difficult to argue with anything they’ve released. Their 1998 release “A Series of Sneaks” makes its way onto our throwback post today because somehow this album, in my opinion, managed to go by relatively unnoticed, which is odd to me because it is genius. It shouldn’t have been so easy to overlook or to forget about. Regardless of where this album stands in your heart or if you’ve even heard of it all, it is one that should be recalled. Here’s to old memories and new ones and everything in between.

I would have dreams about Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane making music together and those dreams finally came true in the form of S.I.A.S. b-side “Little Illusion Machine” for which Sr.Kane provided the vocals. This is one of two songs that Arctics have released under the moniker “Death Ramps” which is pretty much just the band’s edgier alter-ego. This song is everything you’d have expected from a Miles Kane and Arctic Monkeys colab. It meets somewhere between “Rearrange” and “Don’t Sit Down (Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair)” with elements of “You and I.” It is something beautiful.
P.S. Download “Electricity,” Arctic Monkey’s last song from the Suck It and See era. Ergo, the last song they release before their next album (which is on the way woo-hoo). So much Helders. So much O’Malley. So many good things.

Wildcat! Wildcat! is three of Los Angeles’ own brewing some fresh synthtastic indie jamz. They’ve only released two songs thus far but I’m sure once they release an EP or a full length they’ll make it pretty big in the indie scene. I’ve got them on my radar and you should too.

Wildcat! Wildcat! – End Of The World Everyday by Wildcat! Wildcat!
